It’s been a long time coming since the first review in 2018 that was commissioned through Macquarie University and recommended reducing permissible lead levels in plumbing products that come into contact with drinking water.
In last month’s board meeting the ABCB now agreed that, pending consideration of submissions from the NCC public comment draft:
- lead content of plumbing products in contact with drinking water will be limited to 0.25% in NCC 2022 amendments
- the new maximum threshold will commence from 1 September 2022 with adoption of NCC 2022
