According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease has remained the second leading cause of death in 2017 accounting for 13,729 deaths. The number of deaths has skyrocketed by 68% over the past decade and is in danger of increasing.
The statistics are daunting when you look further into the aged care sector, 52% of people in permanent residential aged care as of the 30 June 2017 have been diagnosed with dementia.
The problem will not subside until we arrive at a solution to help people who have dementia live independently.
