SINKS
Mounting options
Sinks can be mounted undermount or top/abovemount:
Undermount sinks require a solid surface benchtop like stone. The sink rim is mounted below the benchtop, so the sink effectively ‘hangs’ underneath the counter top, with the polished edges of the cutout on show. This style gives an uninterrupted flow from the benchtop into the sink |
One advantage of an abovemount sink is that the edges of the benchtop cutout are protected by the sink. The abovemount style has an appeal of its own and allows flexibility in the choice of benchtop material. The sink simply drops into a benchtop cutout and the rim of the sink sits on the benchtop. |
While the undermount look may be the first choice for many, top-mounting is increasingly being chosen for its practical simplicity and raw aesthetic.
